| History of Javea | |||
The
Costa Blanca (White Coast) probably got its name from the numerous bays
of white cliffs in which the Costa Blanca towns nestle. ![]() In (fairly recent) Javea history the Costa Blanca was invaded and occupied by the Moors from North Africa and the names of many of the towns are of Moorish origin. (Benidorm, Benicarló etc.). During the 15th and 16th centuries the Moors were evicted and the Costa Blanca was re-populated by people from Aragon and Catalunya. For this reason Valenciano (similar to Catalan) is still widely spoken on the Costa Blanca. |
